A Summer Wedding in Southampton with an R&B Soul
When Julie and Rob reached out to us back in June 2025 after finding us on Instagram, it was clear from the very first message that this would be a special one. They had been watching our videos, fallen in love with the energy and knew exactly the kind of celebration they wanted. Getting to Know Julie and Rob
For us, every wedding starts long before the day itself. Once Julie and Rob got in touch, we arranged a meeting to sit down, have a proper chat, and really get under the skin of who they are as a couple. What music moves them? What atmosphere do they want to create? What does the perfect wedding night feel like to them?
This is not just a nice thing to do. It is the foundation of everything we build. There is no point putting together a performance that does not reflect the couple at the heart of it. Selling a package without matching it to someone’s personality goes against everything we stand for. It has to feel like them.
Julie and Rob had their hearts set on a big band line-up. Soulful, full and full of energy. The only complication? Their venue space was more intimate than they had originally pictured, and they absolutely loved their venue. The thought of compromising on either was genuinely stressing them out.
To us, that is not a problem. That is a challenge, and we love a good challenge.
A Site Visit That Changed Everything
We arranged a site visit at the venue and brought the full planning toolkit with us. Measurements, photographs, videos and scale floorplans. When you can see an idea come to life on paper, everything clicks into place in a way that conversations alone simply cannot achieve.
Julie and Rob stood in that room, looked at the floor plans, and immediately relaxed. The layout worked beautifully, the space made complete sense, and the band configuration we proposed was going to look and sound incredible. They gave us the green light and told us to run with it.
That moment right there is why we do site visits for the couple as much as for us.
The Hottest Day of the Summer
The 15th of August delivered. Gloriously sunny, warm and full of that summer wedding energy that is impossible to manufacture. The band arrived early, sun cream applied, and set up in the stunning hotel gardens of the Orange Grove hotel gardens, ready for the outdoor drinks reception.
For this part of the day, we performed as a lounge trio: vocals, keys and guitar. Relaxed, smooth and perfectly pitched for guests arriving from the ceremony, cocktails in hand and the sun on their faces.
The setlist for the drinks reception was built entirely around Julie and Rob’s love of R&B. Let Me Love You by Mario, Human Nature by Michael Jackson and Dive by Olivia Dean all featured, alongside a selection of Chris Brown tracks because Chris Brown is Julie’s absolute favourite. Every single guest was singing along. People were swaying with their cocktails, smiling, soaking up the sunshine and already having the time of their lives.
While we played, the couple also had one of the most relaxed and enjoyable portrait sessions we have ever witnessed at a wedding. Rather than disappearing for an hour, they stayed among their guests and moved through the grounds with their photographer. They got stunning couple shots and still enjoyed every moment of the music. Honestly, a brilliant idea that more couples should consider.
The First Dance: Forever
After the drinks reception, the tech team moved quickly to load in, set up and complete a sound check while the couple added one more surprise for their guests. Julie and Rob slipped next door into the ceremony room to cut the cake while their guests had no idea what was waiting for them in the party room.
When the coordinator welcomed everyone through, the band slowly began to reveal the first dance song through gentle keys and guitar, building the atmosphere before the couple made their entrance. It was cinematic. The room lit up.
The song? Forever by Chris Brown. Chosen from day one and performed with a slow, tender build that lifted into full energy after the first chorus. Watching the couple beam at each other in that moment made every hour of planning feel completely worth it.
Two Sets of Pure Party Energy
From the first dance onwards, the night belonged to the dance floor.
We performed two 90-minute sets of non-stop R&B and party music. Chic, Usher, Fatman Scoop, Ludacris, Drake, and Beyoncé all featured, woven together into seamless mashups that kept the energy climbing all night.
The highlight? A brand new hip hop medley we created specifically for Julie and Rob. Knowing how much they loved the era, we built something that felt like stepping back into the early 2000s at your favourite club night. Classic hip hop, iconic drops, the kind of music that makes people completely lose themselves on the dance floor. The reaction told us everything.
And then, right at the end of the night, one final surprise.
Early in the planning process, Julie and Rob had mentioned that alongside their love of R&B and hip hop, they also had a deep love for the Ibiza scene. We filed that away and saved it for the closing moments of the evening. With the saxophone up front and the room already on fire, we closed the night with an Ibiza-inspired finale of sun-soaked club classics that absolutely brought the house down.
That little extra mile? You could feel it in the room.
The Moment It All Comes Together
At the end of the night, we stayed a while. Had a dance with the couple, met their families and friends and soaked in all the brilliant reactions that followed. Tired, accomplished and genuinely buzzing from what had been an exceptional evening.
The compliments were lovely. But honestly, it was the smiles on Julie and Rob’s faces that said it all.
